Series of monotypes about living outside the expectations of society

Monotype A5 x 9
2023

In this series of monotypes, I explore the feeling of unproductivity and the weight of what remains undone. The motifs revolve around dishes left in the sink, traces of repeated attempts, and the shame that arises in the face of expectations to function. These expectations are shaped by a society that assumes such tasks will be completed effortlessly, often alongside many others, without acknowledging the limits of the body. At the same time, the works reflect how this gap in understanding can lead to being perceived as lazy — a judgment that erases the immense effort required to endure each moment. They hold a sense of desperation: the difficulty, and often impossibility, of explaining what it means to inhabit a body in pain and deep exhaustion. Through layers, impressions, and absence, the series makes visible a state in which time stretches, and where not being able to do anything becomes an experience in itself.
